Michael J. Theron

Professional Profile

Completing my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at UNISA
marked the start of an incredible journey …

My internship at Weskoppies Psych. Hospital in Gauteng
involved working with both children and adults.
This was followed by a truly rewarding two years of community service
at Dr. George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa,
and subsequently establishing my own practice in Pretoria.

The next chapter of my adventure took me to the beautiful Underberg,
where I spent 18 months at Riverview Manor.
Based on the work undertaken there, I was presented with the opportunity to relocate to
vibrant Durban, which was always a dream of mine,
to assist in establishing a new facility, The Choose Life Specialist Recovery Centre.

I thereafter transitioned into private practice,
to finally and fully engage my passion for guiding individuals,
ready to make significant changes in their lives.

This has turned out to be the best decision I have ever made.

Professional Philosophy

I consider it a great privilege to be able to live my passion on a daily basis,
that being walking a journey of discovery with others.

All of us, at times, experience obstacles and challenges in life that require
that we do something different to the way we normally do things …

That is where psychology can serve a person well.

My purpose in life is to walk part of that journey of self-discovery with another;
facilitating personal growth and an authentic sense of life & self.

Personal Profile

Michael is an adventurous spirit, a nature-lover and caffeine-addict (one addiction that apparently doesn’t count!)

He loves animals, creativity, personal growth, Padel, mountain biking, and … the moon.

He is known for his wicked sense of humour, and believes that laughter is the best medicine.

Sanele Nkosi

Professional Profile

My journey in the field began upon completing my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the
University of The Witwatersrand. My internship with the Wits Training Circuit
allowed for expansive exposure and truly cemented my passion for the field.

The road finally led back to my home province of K.Z.N. I worked across a range of environments,
including the Westville Correctional Service, a specialized psychiatric hospital in Durban Central and a
Hillcrest-based Private Practice.

The move to Umhlanga Rocks represents the next exciting phase of the journey.

Professional Philosophy

I believe that sustainable change begins when we finally feel empowered to make it.

Thus, primary modalities include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Personal Profile

Still trying to match Michael’s daily caffeine intake levels.

Not quite there yet … but significant progress to date :))

Padel forecast looking good too.
