Michael John Theron
Accessible & Personalized Mental Healthcare
Core Services
MJT provides sensitive, evidence-based psychological support for individuals, couples, families, and carers. Psychotherapy is approached as an adaptive, collaborative process, tailored to each client’s needs, goals, context, and stage of life.
The practice draws on a range of therapeutic approaches to support emotional wellbeing, recovery, adjustment, self-insight, relational health, social connection, and meaningful personal change.
Our Focus Areas
Anxiety, Mood & General Mental Health Concerns
MJT supports clients experiencing anxiety, low mood, mood instability, emotional distress, and broader psychological difficulties. Therapy may focus on understanding symptoms, identifying patterns, strengthening coping strategies, and supporting clients toward greater stability, insight, and everyday functioning.
Adjustment Disorders & Life Transitions
Adjustment difficulties can arise when major life changes, stressors, grief, loss, transitions, or unexpected challenges begin to affect emotional wellbeing and daily functioning. Therapy can help clients process what has changed, understand their responses, and develop healthier ways of adapting to new circumstances.
Stress & Burnout
Stress and burnout can affect emotional wellbeing, work performance, relationships, motivation, and physical health. Therapy can help clients understand the pressures they are carrying, identify unsustainable patterns, and develop more realistic ways of managing demands, boundaries, rest, and recovery.
Trauma Recovery
Trauma can affect how a person feels, relates, trusts, copes, and experiences safety in the world. Therapy offers a supportive space to process difficult experiences at an appropriate pace, strengthen emotional regulation, and work towards a greater sense of stability, integration, and recovery.
Addiction Recovery
MJT has a strong clinical interest in addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and sustainable long-term change. This includes support for clients navigating substance use concerns, maintaining recovery, emotional regulation, identity rebuilding, and the practical challenges that often accompany recovery. Michael’s experience in this area is also reflected in TORP, a standalone structured outpatient recovery programme developed as a separate but related recovery-focused initiative.
Couples & Family Counselling
Relationship difficulties often involve patterns of communication, trust, boundaries, conflict, emotional needs, and expectations. MJT offers support to couples and families, where appropriate, helping clients better understand relational dynamics and work towards healthier interactions, repair, and connection.
Adolescence & Early Adulthood
Adolescence (age 12+) and early adulthood are key developmental stages characterised by identity formation, independence, emotional growth, relationships, academic or career pressures, and family adjustment. Therapy can support young people as they navigate change, uncertainty, self-understanding, and the growing demands of adult life.
Neurodivergence & Support Needs
MJT supports neurodivergent clients and families with concerns about adjustment, emotional wellbeing, identity, relationships, executive functioning, and support needs. The focus is on understanding the individual within their context, while helping clients and caregivers navigate practical, emotional, and relational challenges.
Caregiver, Parent & Family Support
Caregivers and parents often shoulder significant emotional, practical, and relational responsibility. Therapy can support those caring for children, adolescents, neurodivergent individuals, unwell family members, or loved ones in distress, with attention to boundaries, resilience, communication, and caregiver wellbeing.
Men’s Mental Health
Men may experience emotional distress, pressure, burnout, grief, relationship strain, identity concerns, or recovery challenges that are not always easily recognised or discussed. Therapy can provide a grounded, non-judgemental space to explore these experiences with honesty, clarity, and practical support.
Additional Focus Areas
-
Michael retains a particular interest in professional and executive coaching, life navigation, and personal growth. This work remains psychologically grounded through psychotherapy, with appropriate overlap into practical coaching-informed individual support. It may include support around professional pressure and related challenges, leadership demands and development, goals, identity, purpose, and positive growth.
-
Sanele retains a particular interest in the dynamics surrounding inter-generational trauma, and how cultural background, racial identity, social context, and lived experience may shape one’s psychological wellbeing, personal identity, relationships, and integration. Therapy may provide a safe space to explore these experiences, with sensitivity to personal history, social realities, and the broader contexts in which people live and relate.
Who We Support
Adults
MJT supports adults as they navigate a wide range of emotional, psychological, relational, and life-stage concerns. Therapy may focus on mental health, stress and burnout, personal or professional development, recovery, identity, relationships, adjustment, life transitions, or the need for a structured space to process challenges and consider possible paths forward.
Adolescents & Young Adults
Adolescence and early adulthood can involve significant emotional, developmental, academic, social, and identity-related changes. Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space as young people navigate pressure, uncertainty, relationships, family dynamics, self-understanding, and the transition towards independence and adulthood.
Couples & Families
Couples and families may seek support when communication, conflict, trust, emotional needs, boundaries, roles, or life transitions become difficult to navigate. Therapy can help clients better understand relational patterns, strengthen communication, and move towards healthier ways of relating.
Individuals Navigating Addiction & Recovery
MJT supports individuals at different stages of addiction recovery, including those exploring change, maintaining recovery, rebuilding stability, or working through relapse risks and related emotional difficulties. Where a more structured outpatient recovery pathway is needed, TORP may be considered as a separate, dedicated programme.
Parents, Caregivers & Support Systems
Parents and caregivers often shoulder significant emotional and practical responsibility while supporting others. Therapy can provide space to reflect, strengthen coping, improve communication, clarify boundaries, and support the well-being of those caring for children, adolescents, neurodivergent individuals, or loved ones facing mental health or life challenges.
Neurodivergent Individuals & Families
MJT supports neurodivergent individuals and families as they navigate emotional, developmental, practical, and relational challenges. This may include support with adjustment, identity, executive functioning, family dynamics, communication, and the broader support needs of the individual and family system.
Executives & Professionals
Individuals in high-responsibility roles may face sustained pressure, decision fatigue, burnout, role strain, performance demands, and difficulty maintaining personal well-being alongside professional responsibilities. Psychotherapy, with appropriate coaching-informed individual support, can help clients reflect, recalibrate, and develop more sustainable ways of functioning, leading, and living.
