Accessible & Personalized Mental Healthcare

An Established and Growing Clinical Psychology Practice

MJT is founded and led by Michael J. Theron. The practice provides evidence-based, humanistic psychological care across a broad range of emotional, relational, developmental, professional, and recovery-related needs.

Originally built around Michael’s individual clinical work, MJT is developing into a broader ecosystem with an expanding clinical team, wider service capacity, and related initiatives designed to respond to different forms of psychological and professional support.

Across this growth, the practice remains grounded in clinically informed care, sensitivity towards clients, and a belief that psychological care should remain both deeply human and practically relevant.

Michael J. Theron

Founder & Senior Clinical Psychologist

Michael J. Theron holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Africa and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist.

HPCSA: PS 0105635 | BHF: 0000363790

Michael’s professional experience has developed across the public and private sectors, including multidisciplinary clinical environments, addiction treatment facilities, private practice, and therapeutic work with individuals and families facing a wide range of psychological, relational, and life challenges.

His approach is based on the principle that effective psychological care cannot be reduced to a single diagnosis, therapeutic framework, or treatment model; psychotherapy should remain both integrative and adaptive to the person and the wider context of their challenges and strengths. Michael’s clinical work remains client-centred, collaborative, responsive, and thoughtful.

His academic and research interests have included systems theory and progressive models of addiction and treatment. Both his professional and lived experience have shaped a personal commitment to advancing addiction recovery and support beyond conventional treatment pathways.

This led to the development of TORP: The Optimal Recovery Programme, a distinct but related outpatient recovery initiative.

Outside of the consulting room, Michael loves animals, nature, creativity, movement, reading, and possesses a well-developed sense of humour about the general absurdity of being human.

He primarily uses a person-centred approach and strongly believes that sustainable change begins when people feel sufficiently empowered to actively participate in it. His therapeutic process is shaped by individual needs, context, goals, and stage of life.

Outside of the consulting room, Sanele is a growing lover of coffee, and music across many different genres.

He is currently teaching himself how to play the piano, and is a dad to two loving but mischievous Rottweilers, Rocky and Zoe.

At MJT, each practicing psychologist retains their own clinical identity,
professional responsibilities, and areas of experience while contributing to the shared direction and values of the broader practice.

Growing The Team

As MJT develops, the practice is interested in connecting with registered (counselling and clinical) psychologists whose values and approach align with its clinical direction.

The MJT Approach

We aim to provide psychological care that is clinically comprehensive, individually responsive, responsible and connected to the realities of each client’s life.

Person-Centred

Care begins with the individual rather than a predetermined formula. Each client brings a different history, context, set of relationships, and reason for seeking support.

Evidence-Informed

Clinical work draws on established psychological knowledge, therapeutic approaches, professional judgement, and careful case formulation.

Adaptive

Therapy should respond to changing needs, different stages of life, and the complexity of the individual rather than forcing every client into the same process.

Collaborative

Clients are active participants in understanding their difficulties, identifying meaningful goals, and shaping the direction of their psychological work.

The Broader Practice

MJT offers several possible pathways into psychological care and professional support.

Core Services

Individual and relational psychological support across a wide range of emotional, developmental, behavioural, and life concerns.

Expanded Services

Assessment, professional wellness services, psycho-educational services, group therapy and support groups, and clinical supervision and consultation services.

TORP

A distinct but related outpatient addiction recovery programme connected to Michael’s recovery-focused clinical work.
